This project is my capstone project on the theme of waste management. With my team, we surveyed a temporary waste disposal site (TPS-T) in Sinduadi and discussed the waste-handling problems with its operator. Based on our discussions, we implemented an IoT system to monitor and record waste data more efficiently.
Our system consists of multiple sensors with a Raspberry Pi as a hub that receives sensor data. We also modified the wiring of the garbage truck scale so that the readings can be viewed remotely. This was a huge improvement, as the office that handles data is located more than 50 meters from the scale. Each truck requires two weighings: before and after unloading. This means the admin previously had to walk more than 200 meters just to weigh one truck. With our web app hosted on the Raspberry Pi within the local network, the operator could just manage data inside the office without physically checking the scale or using a calculator.
We also designed a database that allows the operator to record truck IDs and their corresponding weights. It also could print invoices that previously must be inserted manually using Excel. Additionally, we also place ESP32 with DHT sensor for maggot farm and thermocouple for catfish farm on site. Lastly, we enable the app to record waste by classification and provide an analytic dashboard.
